Critizing Apple for lack of innovation on textbooks is questionable. Apple fulfill all points on disruptive innovation from @ClayChristensen.

2) Product platform in which feature, function, and styling changes can be made quickly and at low cost

3) A lower price than mainstream product, even though their cost in use is often higher
iBooks Author fulfills 1) and [it's] format fulfills 2). iBooks 2 textbook prize fulfill 3). Apple couldn't done a better job from an innovators view!
Remark: It's challenging and interesting to try to formulate inside twitter's 140 character limits.
